Overview

The Gary Drug Free Communities Coalition is a grassroots organization dedicated to reducing substance abuse and creating healthier, safer neighborhoods throughout Gary, Indiana. Founded on the principle that prevention is the most effective approach to addressing drug-related issues, our coalition brings together community members, local organizations, schools, law enforcement, healthcare providers, and government agencies in a unified effort to tackle substance abuse at its roots.

Our coalition operates under the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program, a federal initiative that provides communities with the resources and framework needed to implement comprehensive prevention strategies. We believe that by working together and addressing the underlying factors that contribute to substance abuse, we can create lasting positive change in our community.

What sets us apart is our commitment to evidence-based approaches and our deep understanding of the unique challenges facing Gary residents. We recognize that effective prevention requires more than just saying "no" to drugs – it requires building strong family relationships, providing positive alternatives for youth, addressing mental health needs, and creating economic opportunities that give people hope for the future.
